My due date was March 5th. And that was the day I went into labor.
Well...lets back up just a bit first. March 5th was a Thursday and I had worked all day long and felt good. When I came home, Mark wanted to go out to eat to celebrate what might be our last dinner as only husband and wife. Living on the south side, there aren't a lot of restaurants, so Mark wanted to go out west. However, I had a "feeling" so I wanted to stay close to home. We had a nice dinner at the Tavern and came home. At 9:07 that night, I had my first contraction.
A relatives advice was to stay home as long as possible to avoid being stuck in the hospital, however my doctor had told me to get to the hospital as soon as possible (I had been progressing quite well during the last few doctor visits). Mark wanted to stay and I thought we should go, so after almost an hour, we were on our way. I was having pretty regular contractions already.
We got to the hospital and got checked just before 10:30pm. There were a few scary moments where the nurse couldn't find Cole's heartbeat, but thankfully after securing a screw-in head monitor, we could relax and know he was doing fine (I was still on oxygen though). Things progressed quickly from here on out. By the way...I heard that my doctor wasn't even at the hospital yet! My nurses were fabulous and help me through an epidural. Soon I was dialated and ready to push! Mark was a great partner - he always had to remind me to breath! Mark said I only had to push for about three or four times, but I am sure it was longer than that. Our doctor did arrive, for about the last ten minutes of his birth.
God blessed us with Cole at 12:38. He weighed 7lbs 14 ounces and was 19 inches long. A beautiful, happy, healthy baby boy!
It has been a wonderful year. I am amazed at how much he has grown up - in size and in skill. He is such a joy and we love him so much! Happy Birthday Cole!
One year ago today....March 5th, my due date.
